Welcome to the Mills PTA Website
The Mills PTA website is updated weekly with current information and events around Mills. The goal is to have the Mills PTA website be a single source of information to our Mills families.
Dear Mills community:
It's amazing to think that our school year is down to a handful of days -- and with it, our time with principal Pat Butler at the helm also draws to a close. As exciting as it is to welcome incoming principal Lalla Beachum to Mills, we're also eager to help Principal Butler celebrate her long tenure. I hope to see many of you at the retirement party on the 21st to honor someone who has given so much to our children over the years.
This year has become one of change in many ways. For the PTA, we split our Spring Festival in two. It was a calculated risk: will kids like a fall festival? will parents come to a spring party without the kids? will we raise the money we need to serve the school? As we know now, it all worked out fine, and we're optimistic that fall and spring events for the PTA will become new traditions.
Our communications approach also changed this year. We moved to a biweekly Mills Messenger this year, and made a reasonable adjustment to our paperless communication system. Again, things have worked out well: several hundred people open our email messages every time they go out, and we've kept paper usage down while getting an extra boost in participation for key events.
I'm also eager to see our water catchment system -- our major project commitment for 2014-15 -- come online in the next few months. There were several times this year when we thought the project was about to slip out of our reach, but a small, dogged group of volunteers kept pushing and exploring options to make sure we'd have this system on our campus. Thanks to them and to your donations, we'll be using less water on campus and will be protecting our sidewalks and landscaping from erosion.
Speaking of volunteers, we are also holding elections on Monday, May 18, to determine who the PTA officers will be for 2015-16. If you are interested in running for a position, voting on candidates, or just commenting on what you hope to see from those who are elected to serve, I hope you'll come out. There's a lot of information on the event in this newsletter, so I'll just leave it there for now.
Thanks and best wishes,
2014-15 Mills Elementary PTA President
