PTA Message

As we wind down for the summer we can’t tell you how thankful we are for the tireless help throughout the year from our Mills PTA association, our Mills families, our staff and community. You donated your time and money to accomplish so much this year! We focused on promoting family participation, community involvement and most of all enriching our children’s education at Mills. And, we emphasized on school volunteerism all the while providing goods and services at little or no cost to our families. Success is an understatement in what you have helped achieve this year and we could not be happier with the outcome…y’all made it possible for every family to benefit. Thank you!

You were all instrumental as well in the huge success of our two major fundraising events – the Charleston Wrap/No Hassle Fall Fundraiser and the Spring Festival & Silent Auction. Without such success we could not fund the many school operations that depend on PTA contributions like: children’s enrichment fee aid, technology staff salary, copier leases, Roaring Readers, and “Take Flight” Dyslexia Program. Not only would these vital services not be possible but neither would any special projects. The donations and sponsorships you acquired made it possible to contribute over $15,000 towards technology devices and campus upgrades, over $1,500 in for educational curriculum, $1,500 for teachers training and another $1,500 for teacher supplies. In addition, contributions towards campus landscaping improvements, the Spanish department, a Planetarium visit, PTA workroom upgrades and so much more. We will continue to need your input in 2014-15, please consider joining your PTA and SHARE YOUR VISION FOR MILLS!

Headings into summer, don’t forget to continue clipping those Box Tops and Labels for Education to turn into school when you return. With the points that we earn we can purchase new sports equipment for the kids to play with on the playground as well as purchase classroom supplies and other learning aids. So, please continue to take advantage of these “free money” deals…it may seem like such a small contribution – but it adds up quickly to big donations to Mills! To assist with summer reminders, the PTA has put together a Summer Checklist for your reference.   Enjoy!

In this final farewell Messenger posting, I’d like to recognize the following individuals for their compassion, loyalty and devotion to making Mills the best it can be!

  • Mrs. Patricia Butler, Principal – you not only provide the highest quality education for our students to ensure achievement, but you tackle every challenge with a smile on your face and with great success.  We are very blessed to have someone like you who cares so much about Mills and makes Mills their top priority!  Phenomenal, phenomenal you!
  • Ms. Heather Scholl, Vice Principal – Our children process information in a variety of ways and your dedication to empowering our students to take responsibility for their own learning makes all the difference in the world to Mills.  Your passion for education shines intensely and Mills is very lucky to have you!
  • Mills PTA Officers and Board Members – You all never cease to amaze me! Your valuable time and caring hearts contributed to making Mills a better place for our children and the staff.  You are priceless, precious people…so much gratitude for all of you!

Finally, we want to wish our 5th grade students and families a fond farewell. Parents, thank you for your continued support of Mills and the PTA. And, CONGRATULATIONS 5th GRADE GRADUATES, you have worked hard and we know you will continue to flourish. Remember, education is the key to unlocking your potential!

Thank you again everyone … I thoroughly enjoyed serving for the last two years as your PTA President. I am very proud to be a part of Mills and especially the Parent Teacher Association. Together, we indeed make a difference for our children and Mills, so yet again … THANK YOU all for your hard work, you generous time, your invaluable skills and unwavering perseverance! Have a great summer! And we look forward to seeing you next year!
