Kiker Transition - Class Placement Letter Due by March 12th

If you will be going to Kiker next year, please see the letter that Kiker sends home regarding input for class placements. If you would like to provide input, the forms are available in our front office - Ms. Butler

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is hard to believe that we are already thinking about the next school year when there is so much yet to do for the remainder of this one.  After we return from Spring Break, we will begin our process of placing students in classes for the 2010-2011 school year. This process begins at the end of March with input from you and input from all of your children's teachers. This process lasts approximately five months and will not be final until August. It is critical that we are diligent and purposeful as we create classes that will lead to success for all.

We consider many criteria as classes are formed.  First and foremost, we consider your child and the best  teacher and environment  for him or her. Other criteria include: gender, general achievement levels, student behavior, special needs, academic programs and services, etc.

If you would like to provide input for your child’s placement, you are invited to do so by completing the form that is available in the school office. Feel free to come and pick one up anytime between March 2nd (Tuesday) and March 12th (Friday).  The form will not be available after that date.

News from Mrs. Butler

Spring Break

As I’m sure you know, Spring Break for AISD will be Monday, March 15 through Friday, March 19, and school will resume on Monday, March 22. I’m looking forward to just taking it easy and enjoying a break before the spring craziness. I hope everyone has a fun, relaxing break.

Cultural Arts Day
All of us at Mills are looking forward to this Friday, not just because it’s the last day before spring break, but because it’s Cultural Arts Day. Students will have an opportunity to visit four different sessions in the morning, and we will have a special program in the afternoon featuring 1st and 2nd grade students performing songs and dances from countries around the world. We invite you to join us for the multicultural  program at either 12:45 or 1:30

Campus Advisory Council
Just a reminder to submit your application if you’re interested in serving on CAC. Applicationas are available in the office or online at http://www.austinisd.org/inside/cac/, and are due by March 29. New members will be selected at the April CAC meeting, and the two year term will officially begin with the May meeting.

Traffic Reminders

As you can imagine, directing traffic coming from 3 different directions can be challenging at times. So we have asked parents not to turn right onto Lantana from the bus circles in the mornings – I realize you have to go further around, but it helps cut down on the number of cars coming through that area. It still seems that many parents are either not aware of the sign or choose to ignore the request. So if you are in the habit of using the bus circle to drop students off in the morning, please turn left onto Lantana. Also, please remember the 20mph school zone on Davis and Lantana, and that it is illegal to talk on a cell phone in a school zone while you are driving and the vehicle is moving.
