Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to our 2010 Mills Teacher of the Year – kindergarten teacher Vincent Valdes. This is Vincent’s sixth year of teaching at Mills, after doing his student teaching here with Deb Hurst. He will go on to represent Mills in the district competition. We’d also like to recognize the two other outstanding educators who were finalists for this honor – third grade teacher Nancy Verrett and music teacher Debbie Tannert.

Newcomer information session

Our first monthly Newcomer Information Session will be held on Thursday, February 18 (a change from what was previously announced) at 9:00 am. We will have a short presentation about Mills and provide time for questions. Then Dr. Tereshinski will lead a tour of the school. These sessions are designed to provide information to any families who will be coming to Mills next year, whether as new kindergarten parents or those who have moved or are considering moving into the area.

Additional Parent Training Session

We have added another parent training session on Thursday, February 18 at 12:00 to accommodate parents who can’t come at 8:00 in the morning. This is a brief over view of policies and procedures for parents who volunteer in the classroom so that they are able to cover a class for a teacher for a short amount of time or work with students away from the classroom.

Boundary Information

We were notified today that Austin ISD will hold a public forum to solicit input regarding the boundary plan being recommended to the Board of Trustees. The plan will be presented to the Board on Monday, February 8, and the forum will be held on Thursday, February 11. There will be a meeting at Mills prior to the forum to discuss how parents can best show their support for the recommended plan. This meeting will be at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 9 in the Mills library. If you have any questions regarding the plan or the forum you can contact Michelle Reinhardt or Lisa Chatham at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
