Adding a class
Our 4th grade enrollment this year is higher than anticipated, with all but one of our 4th grade classes being over the state cap of 22 students per class. We were notified last week that we would be given an additional teacher, so we will be creating a new class to address the large class sizes. We have hired a new teacher, and are very excited about welcoming Whitney Myler to the 4th grade team. She has several years of experience teaching in Houston and Round Rock, and is the perfect teacher to bring a new class together. She has taught both 3rd and 5th grades, and has a background in professional writing and communications. The new class will start on Thursday, September 29, and will be in portable F2, next to Ms. Dye’s third grade classroom.
Landscaping
Many thanks to our PTA Landscape committee, chaired by Samantha Chang. They have been coordinating with AISD to do the improvements to the front of the school. The stone work and mulch are going to make a huge difference in the appearance of our grounds, and we’re very appreciative of their efforts, as well as the contribution of the materials and manpower from the district.
Pancake Breakfast
I hope you’ll join us on Saturday for our 2nd annual Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s. From 8:00-10:00 it will be our pleasure to serve you all the pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee you can handle. This year we’re calling it a “pajama party”, so wear your most colorful pajamas and be prepared to have fun! Remember that everyone - students, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, alumni, and neighbors are welcome to attend. Mills gets to keep $5.00 for each ticket sold, and all the proceeds benefit our literacy initiatives, including Roaring Readers, our dyslexia program, the literacy library and other resources and materials that support our students being great readers and writers. It was a blast last year, so we’re hoping to make it even bigger and better this year.
Traffic Reminder
Please think twice before crossing Davis Lane in the middle of the street. The sun is at a particularly dangerous spot this time of year, and it’s very hard to see at times. This is always a dangerous practice – parents and students should always go to one of the crosswalks. Yes, it takes a little longer, but it really is worth it to keep our children safe.
